(CNN) -- Adam "MCA" Yauch, a founding member of the pioneering rap band Beastie Boys, died Friday after a nearly three-year battle with cancer, the band's publicist said.
Trev had a shitty little record player and the only record he had was Paul's Boutique. So when we were at his house that's all we listened too. About a year later you could get the Cassettes at Zeller's for 99 Cents. I bought like 20 of them and passed them out. I remember all tapes were different colors, like yellow, red green blue and stuff. This stuck with me and a few years later my band did a tape and I had the plant make them yellow. I remember going to see the Beastie Boys in Montreal. Someone rented a school bus and my friend Scott got wasted and puked banana everywhere. It was a school bus so there was no bathroom and no pit stops, it was pretty funny. I got Check your head the day it came out. I had a promo single for pass the mic my friend Cobe gave me and was well aware the world was in for a treat. It was spring '92. 20 years ago. 1992 was a great year and this album for me was part of that. It was Slayer, Black Flag, Motorhead and the Beastie Boys. That's pretty much all my friends and I listened too.
