Van-O-the week (05 12 08)

Van of the week.
This thing is fucking nuts.
The painter and owner is Ivan Benic of Windsor Ontario Canada. At least that what is says in Vans and trucks magazine 1976.
Check out Ivan and his girl, what a hip couple!

Got this bad boy at the county fare last summer.

ROTH mug

My buddy Steve from AB supply auto paint store gave me this mug the other day.
I was like "Hey Steve, what's that hanging up over there?" and he was like "I got it from Dennis Roth, take it, it's yours! Thanks Steve.
It's a Robert Williams design he did for Roth in the 60's.
It's also in the book "The Lowbrow art of Robert Williams.

Found

My friend Mike LaVella gave me this, not sure were he got it but it was definataly a found photo.
Trev (The art of trev. post below) used to collect found photos.
He had so many. He had his own section "Trev's found photos" in my old fanzine from the 90's "Dirty".
This was before Vice and Found magazine.
I think I have that mask kicking around.

More Trev

Just found this.
My favorite is the guy in the bottom right corner.

The art of Trev

Trevor Borrens AKA Trev. is my oldest friend.
We've been best friends since grade school.
The first time I met him was in detention, he had crazy glued fake dog shit to the teachers desk and I was like "This guys cool".
We've had many adventures over the years and I will defiantly post them but I wanted to write this one about his art.
We used to do allot of drawing together in the 90's when I lived in Canada. Trev is extremely creative and comes up with the funniest shit.
He went threw a faze in the 90's where he would draw these little one frame comics on the back of cigarette packs.
"Earwig Talk" Friendly giant glass tiger" "Sluts" and it was all creepy deformed people saying and doing weird shit. It's hard to just write about it, you just have to see it.
I have a big collection of these i will be posting in the neer future.
In the meantime check out these pics and his latest work:

Browners

Beehive Head Cyclops Man, Shingles, Wombat Man the Killer Marsupial and Wolfy Egghead Bear Thing.
(Scanned from the coolest little Halloween book ever Goth-Icky)

Van-O-the week Lil Blue '62

Love them old Fords.
This one is pretty darn sick, nice pinstriping, lettering and check out the black velvet painting that would make Leteg himself proud!
I'm a shameless Cragar 5 spoke fan. (Always was, am and will be) Those rims look good on pretty much everything pre 1980. That goes for Radars as well. (Must be the Munsers influence?) I scanned in the article as well.

Laser Discs

Laser Discs! Yup, the giant CD dinosaur movie format.
I'm not going to get into the zorky history of the LD, but just wanted to post this.
I had always admired them but they were very obscure and pricey in Canada.
That all changed when I moved to San Francisco back in '03 and had a studio 1 block from Amoeba music. Tucked away in the corner of the movies room is the LD section.
It's packed with great films and are usually under $3!
I got my player for $30 on Craig's list.
People kind of look at me funny when I tell them I collect LD's, or they don't know what the hell your talking about.
LD's died off in the late 90's but left a huge trail of films available.
They made pretty much everything on LD.
It's kinda funny to see other people digging in the LD's at Amoeba, I'm like "I wonder if that's the guy who bought the last copy of Barfly?"
