Thanks to everyone for coming to the show, I couldn't have asked for a better night! I will be posting photos from the show this week. You can preview the art here: Copro Gallery
Tonight I officially finished painting for my solo show. It's been an 8 month journey, long and hard yet fun and most important, satisfying...very satisfying. I was planning on a summer 2012 show when I got an e mail from my old pal Gary at Copro Gallery asking if I would like to do a show in late Feb. I've put together a short list of a few reference films I watch while working on the show. I'll do another blog with some albums and books but right now I'm going to celebrate with a few drinks! Hope to see you on Saturday!
Reposted from AUTOCULTURE …was the kind of Saturday we needed: Dirty Donny and Joe Hickenbottom’s ‘56 Bel Air gin-u-wine dirt car, with Eric from Element Case. Thing’s got some good Central California Coast history and we dig it….
Thanks for posting that Dan! I have a few photos to ad. Up, Hansom Dan Stoner and I sitting in Joe Hickenbottom’s ‘56 Dirt car. Down, my wife Oriana tearing it up...befor the crash.
Joe doesn't look to bumbed. "nothing a hammer wont fix"
My friend Don Hodge made this trailer for my show. Don is a super talented guy, he does video, photos and is a stuntman in his spare time. He worked his ass off on this and the mastodon drum video, thanks Don! My mom is sick right now. She's one of my biggest supporters and I just want her to know I'm thinking of her and this video is for you, get well and I'll see you soon!
...is a 24" x 48" painting. This will be one of 7 larger van mural sized painting for the show. Each of these will have custom frames designed by myself and made by Wade Krause. I shot the Blog banner with my iphoine. This new one was shot by my friend Don Hodge. Drop by the show opening night Sat.Feb.25th at Copro Gallery in Santa Monica.
This is one of 10 custom hand made D-20 (gaming dice) for my upcoming solo show. The set is being buried in clear this week. I have been working on these for a long time, glad to give you a sneak peak.
Between now and the show I will be posting a few paintings as well as some video blogs of the work I have been doing. This is one of the "24x"48 pieces. I also have 10 hand crafted 20 sided dice (D-20 gaming dice) that have been shot in flake. I'm hand painting them all now.
"Vantastic Voyage" New works from Dirty Donny Gillies Feb.25th at Copro Gallery in Santa Monica CA 8:00pm till 11:30
OK here it is, finally posting this. So I have been secretly working my ass off for the last 8 months on this art show now titled "Vantastic Voyage". 1970's Sci-Fi Fantasy and custom van mural inspired works. I have a series of van murals painted on canvas as well as some black light weirdo art. I have a few more surprises I will be posting between now and the show as well as some (work in progress) video blogs. I also have the mention the Beatniks custom pinball machine will be making it's first pubic appearance on loan from James Hetfield for the opening night. This is my first solo art show of new work. If your around pop by and say hi!
Recently painted this drum kit for Brann Dailor of Mastodon. My friend Don Hodge came and filmed the Candy and peeling stages, then did all the editing, thanks brother! Thanks to Brann, Ozzy and co. (for the extra vid and photos) Frank and Mastodon.
Just got my kits in. Damn they really spared no expense on the packaging. Solid box, Chrome parts and two generous decal sheets! I took everything out and could barely fit it back in, took me three try's, lol!
